Braille Bible and other Projects

Category: Braille

New Braille Initiatives

Along with the Braille Projects in Progress that you can read about in this section of the website, i.e: Languages, Braille Booklets, Braille Bibles and the Micro Braille Unit, we are also promoting the Braille projects listed below:-

Braille Bible Portions - Mini-Libraries Project

On our visit to India in 2011 we presented Braille Bibles in the form of a Mini-Library to 5 rural Bible Study groups and you can see footage of this on the Videos tab. This project has continued to grow and we have since sent several more Mini Libraries (c.10 volumes to a set) usually consisting of the four Gospels, Proverbs and Psalms but Mini-Libraries can be made up of other Biblical books according to the needs of each particular group. The Bible Study groups usually take place in small family homes, with one room and a compact kitchen, so a complete Braille Bible would be hard to accommodate. (Select Braille Bibles in the left panel to see the size of a Braille Bible).

Special Bible Fund

The Special Bible Fund is allocated to the production of Braille Bible portions for projects that are otherwise unfunded. This fund is applied when needs, of a special or urgent nature, are made known to us by recognised groups working among people with visual disabilities. There is an application procedure for those who want to make requests for Braille. Please feel free to contact us for an application form.

To continue this work and develop more innovative overseas projects we need new prayer supporters and financial backers. The prospects are endless and we want other UK agencies to be part of this exciting and growing work among one of the world's poorest and most marginalised people groups.

Along with the projects that you can read about in this section, i.e: Languages, Booklets, Braille Bibles, and the Micro Braille Unit, we are also progressing, at different speeds, with the following initiatives:-

Braille - Mini-Libraries:

On our visit to India earlier this year we presented Braille Bibles in the form of a Mini-Library to 5 rural Bible Study groups and you can see footage of this by clicking the Videos tab. These Mini-Libraries consisted of the four Gospels, Proverbs and Psalms but future Mini-Libraries may be made up of other books according to the needs of each particular group. The houses in which the Bible Study groups take place are small, usually one room and a compact kitchen so a complete Braille Bible would be hard to accommodate. (click on the Projects tab and select the Braille Bibles page to see the size of a Braille Bible).

E-Booklets:

As well as the ongoing transcription of new languages and Braille projects for new destinations, we are also developing a future overseas project to make specific Braille booklets available to overseas partner groups via the internet - this is a work in progress rather than being imminent.
